Italian Studies

The Italian Studies program, based at St. Jerome's University on the Waterloo campus, is specifically tailored to offer a unique opportunity to learn the language of art music and la dolce vita while studying one of the truly seminal cultures and literatures of the western world either in the original Italian or in English.

You can study Italian Studies through the Honours Arts program by declaring your major in Italian Studies for your second year. The Three-year general major in Italian Studies provides a full array of courses, including Italian language, but for the most part is taught in English. It offers students a thorough and unhindered access to a culture and a literature, which are in many respects the foundation of western letters and thought.

You will also have the opportunity to study at the University of Calabria (Unical) immersing yourself in Italian language and culture for up to one year. Normally exchanges take place in your third year.

Ways to Study

Please note that this is an new three-year general major available for fall 2005. In order to provide our students with the best possible exposure to Italian language and culture the courses listed above may change and be updated as we expand this new program.
