Course Goal:
This course investigates the basics of Website Design through a series of
lectures and hands on tutorials. Participants will learn how to organize
and create websites using a graphical web page editor in a multitasking
environment. The goal of this course is to have participants create and maintain
an online Web site. Expanding on the basic principles learned in Introduction
to Web Page Design, participants will learn how to plan, organize and maintain
a series of HTML documents in an online environment. This course will
be of interest to those who wish to manage an online Web site for personal
or business use. Participants will learn the design principles and management
skills surrounding Web site creation and maintenance. The course will combine
lectures, hands-on practice, and skill-building sessions as well as online
work.
Course Objectives - at the end of the course participants will be
able to:
1.plan a Website by defining the key components
2.organize and structure a website using templates
3.create navigational links and anchors
4.create transparent gifs for use in graphic designs
5.mount a Website to the Internet
6.maintain the website files and links
Course Organization:
The course is organized into 2 one-day sessions. Classes are conducted at
the University of Waterloo in the ML109 Computer Lab. The course is delivered
over the University Network on PC based equipment running Windows 95. Internet
access along with course software and University of Waterloo computer accounts
are made available for the duration of the course. There will be a combination
of lectures, hands-on practice and skill-building sessions as well as discussion
