Wilhelm Müller wrote and published the poems in 3 stages:
1822: first twelve poems published under the title Wanderlieder in Urania: Taschenbuch auf das Jahr 1823
1823: ten additional poems published in Deutsche Blätter für Poesie, Litteratur, Kunst und Theatre
1824: two more poems - "Die Post" and "Täuschung" - added; all 24 poems published in Gedichte aus den hinterlassenen Papieren eines reisenden Waldhornisten II: Lieder des Lebens und der Liebe.
Schubert discovered the Urania poems first and set them to music. He discovered the other poems later and added them after the first twelve. For the second twelve he kept the order as they were presented in the 1824 publication except that he switched "Nebesonnnen" and "Mut".
