Hanoi School of Business (HSB) is a very new school. It is established in 1995
as an independent school of the National University of Vietnam (NUV). It means
that it belongs to the NUV. However, the school operates independently with
NUV. NUV has given HSB complete freedom in virtually every aspect, such as
setting curriculums, administration, recruiting staff, making payments, etc.
Moreover, HSB is not under the control of the Ministry of Education in many
aspects listed above. At the moment, HSB is under the chair of Professor
Nguyen Trong Binh, a very young and well-known academic in Vietnam.
HSB is sponsored and supported by various organizations and academic
institutions. Beside the support of the NUV, HSB also receives supports from
international organizations such as World Bank, IMF, and Resource Exchange
International (REI).
HSB is supported by Dartmouth College and James Madison University (JMU).
Dartmouth College and James Madison have provided both financial support and
support in terms of staff. In fact, the pilot MBA will be awarded by Dartmouth
College. At the moment, Dr. Roger Ford, Zane Showker Professor of
Entrepreneurship (JMU) is now working as a permanent staff at HSB. HSB at the
moment is having two advisors: Roger Ford (JMU) and Charles Nicholson (REI).
The mission of HSB is to become a premier school in business education in
Vietnam and firstly in South East Asian region and later in the world. HSB
expects to reach its goal in the year 2020. Moreover, we are also going to
establish a journal called: Hanoi Business Review, a journal with
international standard. It means that the journal will be entirely different
with any Vietnamese journals you may have seen before. Actually, at the
moment, Vietnam hasn't got any business journal with international standard at
all.
In the last 3 years, we have successfully conducted some short courses awarded
by Dartmouth College. However, as I said above, our aim is to establish the
MBA program. At the moment, we are having many difficulties in establishing
our pilot MBA program. But the most difficult one is staff. We are severely
lacking qualified staff, Vietnamese and international ones. Our policy is
that we will not look for staff heavily trained in socialist-systems. We would
like to have staff with Western training in business. So if you:
1. have a Western training in business. We are very much in need of some
MBA graduates. However, any other university education in business is
strongly welcomed. You can have a bachelor degree, a graduate diploma,
a master, or a doctor degree.
2. intend to work as a business lecturer in Vietnam.
3. You don't have to be Vietnamese to apply to HSB. We strongly need
international staff. In fact, we intend to have the balance of 70% of
international staff and 30% of Vietnamese staff in the first years.
After that, the balance will be around 70% of Vietnamese staff and 30%
of international staff.
4. Have an enthusiasm and are committed to develop such quality school for
Vietnam.
5. The salary and benefits are very competitive. Of course, you should
expect that we are unable to offer the same remuneration package as the
one if you work for a large international university or school.
However, it is very attractive in the Vietnamese context. Moreover, you
will have an excellent environment to teach and do research in the
Vietnamese economy.
Please let us know if you are interested. Please do email us for further
information even if you are interested but still uncertain about something.
Please feel free to ask anything at all. I also ask for your help to circulate
